Library Behavior and Discipline Action Policy Document

The Librarian or staff of the Yuma Public Library will not allow unbecoming behavior in the library. It is the responsibility of the staff to take care of problems as they arise. Written accounting will be made by the library staff with each occurrence. Patrons, whether children or adult, may be asked to leave the building if their behavior is deemed inappropriate.  An accounting, in writing, will be given to the Library Board by the Librarian at the next meeting. A copy will also be given to the City Manager and the City Attorney.

PATRON POLICY
The Yuma Public Library serves the City of Yuma and the surrounding area. The library welcomes visits by children and adults and it is our desire to make these visits enjoyable. Parents or guardians are responsible for the behavior of their children at all times while at the library.

Children under 6 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times while using the library. Children age 6 and older may use the library unattended. Children who are attending a library sponsored program may be left unattended during the program time. While in the library all children should be participating in activities relating to library activity, such as reading, computer use or studying. All children using the library will be required to fill out a registration card which has been signed by a parent or guardian.

Children who are noisy or disruptive to the normal operation of the library will be asked to leave the premises. Children of any age who are continually disruptive will be required to have adult supervision at all times while in the library. Parents or caregivers of minor children are responsible for the behavior of their children at all times when they are using the library.

The library is not responsible for the care and safety of children while traveling to and from the library.

Children should always be picked up from the library before closing time. Every attempt will be made to contact a parent or caregiver to pick up minor children. If it is closing time or if the safety of a minor child is in question and we are not able to contact a parent or guardian the Library is authorized to contact the Yuma Police Department. The Library takes no responsibility for the safety or welfare of children left unattended at the library.
